Within a month of listing Harry Rutgers and Lori Rosen’s three-bedroom two-bath Roslyn Heights home for $595,000 last May, Maria Babaev, manager of Century 21 Laffey Associates in Greenvale, snagged a buyer.
SURREAL as this may seem in light of the current turmoil in the financial markets, luxury home prices were up in Nassau County for the first eight months of this year. At the top of the market, particularly in communities along the North Shore, home shoppers with deep pockets have still been buying their dream houses, seemingly unaffected by economic doldrums.
The English-style mansion, which sits on four acres and has five bedrooms, a billiard room, a gym and a two-car garage, was sold by Maria Babaev of real estate brokerage Douglas Elliman.

Muttontown Easton Estate Sold to Chinese Buyers for $20 Million
As 1999 ball-dropped into 2000, Greg and Kimberly Campbell hosted a millennium costume ball in the ballroom of their Lloyd Harbor mansion.
Sitting on 2.32 acres in Muttontown is Thornwood, a restored Gold Coast estate for sale. The 9,000-square-foot home — listed for $6.495 million with Maria Babaev of Douglas Elliman Real Estate — has seven bedrooms, six full baths, five half-baths and seven fireplaces.

“We had multiple bids on the property,” said Douglas Elliman broker Maria Babaev.
The lavish Georgian colonial at 34 Pheasant Run in Old Westbury sits on four acres, with a pool and tennis court. The buyer is a local family, sources said.
Peter bought the home 20 years ago, Babaev said.
