     About Manhasset

The area commonly known as Manhasset is a hamlet within the Town of North Hempstead. Its picture perfect neighborhoods are more than a façade. The Wall Street Journal ranked Manhasset as the best neighborhood to raise a family in the NYC metropolitan area. It is only fitting then that the name Manhasset is a Native American term meaning “the island neighborhood.” Within Manhasset are six incorporated villages; Munsey Park, Plandome Village, Plandome Heights Village, Plandome Manor Village, Flower Hill and North Hills. Both Flower Hill and North Hills actually lie only partially within Manhasset. From the Manhasset train station, residents and visitors can expect to be in downtown Manhattan in just 28 minutes.

    Manhasset History
Much like many of the neighboring areas, In the 19th Century Manhasset was a farming community.  The construction of the Long Island Rail Road helped to transform this area into an upscale commuter area for businessmen and women working in New York.
In his 1925 novel The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald referred to the area of Manhasset Bay as “East Egg”, an area known for old money and established, wealthy New York families.
